Name of Talk:  Mixed Franking Covers – How common stamps can make a rarity!

Presented by Ray Simpson and Karl Louis

Two or more stamps from different stamp issues used together on a cover to pay postage can be defined as a 'Mixed Franking‘.

Each stamp on a Mixed-Franking cover may be common and worth a few pennies only. But incombination as a Mixed Franking they may be of major philatelic importance and of high value.

Ray Simpson and Karl Louis have just published a new handbook about 'Great Britain - Victorian Mixed-Franking Covers‘. For the first time, comprehensive listings of the most interesting Mixed Frankings are provided. In addition a system of Valuation Factors has been developed by the authors as a basis for valuing all kinds of Mixed-Franking covers based on Stanley Gibbons catalogue prices for stamps on cover.

Ray and Karl will explain the colourful world of Mixed Frankings, the unexpected rarity of certain stamp combinations and how to use the Valuation Factors. The authors will also give ideas how to start the challenge of a 'treasure hunt‘ for Great Britain Victorian Mixed Frankings to form a new fascinating collection whether you have only a few pounds to spend or deep pockets.

In the second part of the talk Ray and Karl will gladly answer any questions from the audience.
