How to Exhibit Competitively

Bill Hedley, Chairman, ABPS exhibitions joined us at Stampex and gave us his insight into how to exhibit competitively 

Bill presented a talk on how to exhibit competitively.  Within it, he touched on two clear areas, firstly preparation & secondly how to collate the exhibit.  Here we have pulled together the top line takeaway points from his presentation. 


Preparation 

• The key here is to work out the scope of the exhibition
• Think about what you want to do 
• What is the story you are telling 
• Talk to other people who have exhibited
• Read the rules & guidelines 
• Research your subject area

Collating your exhibit

• Work out the plan and flow of the exhibit
• It should be subdivided into sections 
• The introductory sheet is crucial 
• This sheet should include 
  • Title
  • Purpose of exhibit
  • Plan, by chapter 
  • Rarity or other things of interest
  • A list of important references
• Write it up either by hand or by computer
• At the end, review the exhibit and make sure it includes what you initially outlined in your introductory sheet
